Terms of Use

These terms apply to use of Merced Residents Directory. By using the pages or following a linked search tool, you accept the terms below. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

1. The Nature of This Reference

Merced Residents Directory is a privately operated reference about public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections connected with Merced County, California. It does not host government files and is not affiliated with the Assessor-Clerk-Recorder, Superior Court, elections office, library, museum, any city, or any other custodian.

2. Acceptable Use

Use the pages only for lawful purposes. You may not use this reference or anything reached through it to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person.
  • Locate a person who is protected by a restraining or protective order.
  • Commit identity theft, fraud, or another unlawful act.
  • Make a decision regulated by the FCRA, including a credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decision.
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the content at scale.
  • Interfere with the operation, security, or availability of the service.

3. No Consumer Reports

Merced Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. section 1681 et seq. The pages and linked search results are not consumer reports. They may not be used to assess eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Linked Services Have Their Own Terms

County and state portals, court systems, libraries, archives, sponsored search tools, and other external services set their own terms, privacy practices, availability, and prices. Merced Residents Directory does not control those services and is not responsible for their content or operation.

5. No Promise of Accuracy

The reference is provided “as is” and “as available.” No warranty is made that a page, link, fee, coverage year, office detail, record description, or search result is accurate, complete, current, or available. Confirm important information with the responsible custodian before relying on it.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or other damages arising from use of the pages or an external resource, including an action or decision based on a record found through them.

7. Your Responsibility to Protect the Operators

You agree to indemnify and hold the operators harmless from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that results from your misuse of Merced Residents Directory or breach of these terms.

8. Copyright and Site Materials

The original writing, design, logo, and layout belong to the operators or their licensors and are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a short excerpt with attribution is welcome. Republishing a full page or systematically copying the content is not permitted.

9. Revisions

These terms may change when the service, legal context, or linked resources change. A new version becomes effective when posted. Continued use after posting signifies acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Restricting Access

The operators may block, limit, or suspend access for a user who violates these terms, abuses the service, or threatens its security. That action may occur without advance notice.

11. California Law Applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without applying conflict-of-law principles. The California Public Records Act, Government Code sections 7920.000 through 7931.000, governs many requests to California agencies but does not turn this private reference into a records custodian. California's Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, including Civil Code section 1798.100 et seq., apply only where their definitions, thresholds, and exceptions reach a particular business practice.

12. Severability

If a court finds one provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to operate to the extent the law permits.

13. Questions About These Terms

Questions about the terms should be sent through the Contact Us page. Questions about a government record belong with the custodian named on the relevant Merced page.
